This is what wikipedia has to say about a blog: "A blog (a contraction of the term "Web log") is a Website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video."
If you have a look at a Blog, you will see that this description doesn't hit the mark. What happens in a blog is not even remotely as boring as this text above.
So what is the big deal with Blogging?
Before the Blogs became popular, we got our news from reporters: We would read an article in the newspaper or watch the news or a documentary film on TV.
Nowadays, on top of traditional media, we have personal news. Blogs are a new kind of website where we can create our own versions of news, so everybody can be a reporter and news is personalized. Anyone can talk about anything he/she is interested in: A business owner can talk about his business, a mother can talk about her children, a sports-star can talk about their sport And there is a huge audience out there who want to share your thoughts and experiences, in fact, Blogs have become so popular that they have grown to the point where there are over 70 million of them on the Internet!
Blogs are a two way street: you can post comments on every blog you read, and everybody who writes a comment on these blogs, becomes a blogger themselves. Bloggers work together, read each others texts, quote each other and link to one anothers blogs. Blogs can reach a huge number of small groups and audiences
So what does this have to do with Search Engine Optimization? If you have read our page about Building Links — you have already realized the power of association: Blogs generate interest, drive traffic to your associated website and encourage linking. The more links on your website, the better your Search Engine Ranking will be. Therefore, Blogs are an excellent contribution to theSEO process.
Why do many Small Businesses stay away from Blogging?
The answer is simple: Most people don't know where to start!
The first step to using a blog as a Search Engine Optimization tool is to generate a lot of content. You will need to write a lot of text before you send it out to your potential customers. After you've done this, be sure to maintain your blog by regularly updating the blog once or twice a week.
